I don’t want to patronise you and explain this crisis, you’re living it, we all know what the crisis is. We can’t afford shit and those in charge can afford whatever the fuck they like because for them, times have never been better, while for us times have never been harder.
What I will do though is tell you why I am fighting against it, and I hope that you yourself will pick up the pitchfork and torch and join us in standing up for ourselves.
We live in a society where the people are essentially walking ATMs for shareholders and the super rich, since the 2008 crisis we have continually paid, while their profits and bank accounts continue to hit new highs.
Regardless of what they would have you believe, it is workers who are the wealth generators in our society, not only do we create the wealth through our labour but we are the lifeblood of the economy.
Our economy is essentially a bunch of spinning plates and every time we spend money those plates keep spinning, now if the spending power of the population falls, then those plates slow down, and when they stop spinning because we can’t spend enough to keep up, we have a recession. That is why a million people being able to afford their shopping adds far more value to the real economy, than a millionaire buying another boat or house.
The energy crisis that we are going to be forced to pay for is going to completely and utterly destroy our economy, not only will the purchasing power of a large section of the population go in to the negative, small businesses and public services are going to be decimated because they won’t be able to pay for these absolutely unreasonable price demands.
They’re not floating about a loan to energy companies so that they can keep their prices low, a loan we will ultimately have to pay for – keeping energy prices at these unaffordable rates and we both know they will never come down.
We paid for the 2008 Crisis, the Great Recession, MPs Expenses Scandal, Austerity and Covid – we are living through the greatest transfer of wealth from the bottom to the top. Isn’t it about time they paid?
They announce record profits, yet we are forced to live with record poverty – it isn’t fair, it isn’t right and it just shows how fundamentally broken our system is, and how by design, we are the ones that are forced to endure hardship.
That is why I’m supporting Don’t Pay UK and organising for my local community, and I think everyone should get involved.
Many people simply won’t be able to pay, it is imperative that those who can, stand in solidarity with them, but just as importantly it allows the people that can’t pay to have political representation and expression.
It gives people some measure of power, and removes some of the stigma and sadly shame that comes with being in a bad financial situation. Even though this is through no fault of their own poverty has a stigma in our society due to years and years of anti-working class propaganda being beamed directly in to our homes.
I can remember being a child living in poverty and nobody should grow up poor in a society where there is so much excess, we are one of the richest countries in the world on paper, yet many will starve and die this winter and many have already starved and died since austerity.
Enough is enough, we can’t continue in a society like this. We need change, and unless we stand up and fight for it, it will never happen.
They are not going to change the system out the goodness of their hearts after all, this system works well for them. They get to live like Kings, well I for one won’t be a pawn any longer.
Organise and get involved in your local community, we can change this system and make it work for all rather than the 1%, we only need to realise our collective power and strength to bring down the house of lies.
We need to be supporting and empowering ourselves, standing in solidarity with our community and working to build an alternative that gives people strength, hope and courage to do what is not only morally right, but also the practical thing to do.
The energy crisis, the cost of living crisis, greed crisis, capitalism crisis or whatever you want to call it, is a crisis of our social, political and economic system. These are what we need to fight and change in the long term, but in the short term, we need to be empowering people up and down the country, and this is one small step towards that.
The current systems exist to alienate us from one another, to prevent us knowing our collective strength and power. Whether it is in a community or in a work place, when we stand together we are strong. It’s time to stand together in solidarity, organise and protect and support one another – nobody is coming to save us.

Ultimately power rests in our hands, in mine, in yours – we can stand together, we can support one another and we can create empowering solidarity across this country. The change that we ultimately need will always come from below, it will always come from us, because we are the many.
A clenched fist is far stronger than any individual finger, well we are the fingers and we can form that fist, and with it we can knock aside anything that stands in our way.
When we stand united we cannot be defeated.
